2019 Native American Seed Sanctuary Ceremony

On May 28 the Farm Hub and SEEDSHED staff were joined by our partners from Akwesasne to celebrate the beginning of the growing season at the Native American Seed Sanctuary. Members of the Mohawk/Akwesasne community blessed the land and the seeds that we will plant in the Three Sisters Garden with a sacred tobacco burning ceremony.

The day was also spent installing a bee habitat and arbor created by Hudson Valley Bee Habitat that will also serve as a gateway to the Seed Sanctuary. The top of the arbor is a design inspired by the Hiawatha Belt, which represents peace between each Haudenosaunee nation.
