Our vision is to increase professional development around farm mechanization so that farmers and other agricultural workers can make their farms more efficient, scale up if desired, make expensive equipment last, be safe in a dangerous profession, and save money.

Program description:
<\/span><\/p>\n

The Hudson Valley Farm Hub\u2019s <\/span>Farm Mechanic Basics<\/span><\/i> program offers in-class instruction and hands-on experience to learn the fundamentals of agricultural mechanics.  The program takes place in our heated machine shop and conference room during 10 sessions, totalling 70 hours, on Saturdays and Sundays. Participants will gain an understanding of tractor parts, systems, and implements and will get experience troubleshooting and performing maintenance and basic repairs on farm equipment and small engines.  <\/span><\/p>\n

This course is for people actively working in agriculture who are interested in taking the next steps toward mechanization and machine repair. The course is best suited for farmers with little to no mechanical experience and some tractor operation experience. <\/span><\/p>\n

Our instructor team includes farm mechanic SG Groat (educator and farmer), Jayne Henson (Transgenerational Farm), Jesus Gonzalez Negrete (Tractor Operator at the Farm Hub), and Willis Ross (local bike mechanic). Additional support will be provided by other skilled Farm Hub tractor operators.<\/span><\/p>\n

We welcome farmers and agricultural workers of all backgrounds to apply. We are committed to creating a supportive learning space for those who have been historically underrepresented, unsupported, or excluded from agricultural training opportunities.<\/span><\/p>\n

We aim to create a welcoming environment for all participants and encourage applications from anyone who shares this commitment to equity in agriculture. Our expectation is that all applicants are committing to co-creating a welcoming and respectful learning environment.<\/span><\/p>\n

There are no fees for the Farm Mechanic Basics Program, it is completely free. <\/span>A one-time, per-day, opt-in stipend is available to support participants who would otherwise not be able to attend due to costs such as those associated with childcare, transportation, or other similar expenses.<\/span><\/p>\n
