ENYCHP<\/a> focuses on building and sharing evidence-based knowledge with agricultural stakeholders in the Hudson Valley, Capital Region, and Champlain Valley. ETHAN GRUNDBERG<\/strong>
Ethan Grundberg (MS \u201909, University of California, Davis) is a regional vegetable specialist serving the commercial vegetable growers of the Lower and Mid-Hudson Valley with a specific emphasis on providing technical support to Orange County\u2019s black dirt farms. Grundberg has been a principal investigator on multiple research trials hosted by the Hudson Valley Farm Hub, including projects to measure greenhouse gas flux rates from soils under different tillage treatments, evaluate the efficacy of biofungicides on reducing Alternaria leaf spot and head rot severity in broccoli, measure the potential impact of foliar calcium applications on tip burn in overwintered spinach, and more.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t

Teresa Rusinek is a vegetable production specialist with over 20 years of experience working with a variety of farm operations in the Hudson Valley. She currently focuses her extension efforts on vegetable production, including integrated pest management, horticulture, biocontrols and greenhouse\/high tunnel management. SARAH TOBIN<\/strong>
Sarah Tobin is an Extension Support Specialist with the ENYCHP, bringing over 15 years of experience in seed science, plant pathology, and IPM. She supports vegetable growers through on-farm research, scouting, data analysis, and outreach. Sarah has worked extensively with Rusinek and Grundberg on research trials at the Hudson Valley Farm Hub. In her spare time, Sarah also runs a small, organic home-use farm, bringing practical insight to her work across the lower Hudson Valley.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t

CHUCK BORNT<\/strong>
Growing up on a vegetable farm in NY sparked Chuck Bornt’s interest in all aspects of crop production. Chuck completed his undergraduate studies at SUNY Cobleskill and his master degree at the University of New Hampshire, Durham in Plant Biology. Chuck’s experience as a Cornell Cooperative Extension Area Specialist began in 1998 in Western NY. His attention turned to vegetable production in the Capital Region in 2002. Today, Chuck spends much of his time with growers, determining the vegetable industry needs for research and educational outreach.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

The Sorrells Lab for Small Grain Breeding and Genetics<\/a> builds on over 100 years of small grains innovation and improvement at Cornell University. <\/strong>Natasha Djuric began her Ph.D. in the Sustainable Cropping Systems Lab in 2022. Her research focuses on advancing organic small grain production in the Northeast and developing the first commercialized perennial grain, Kernza. This work involves an emphasis on ecological weed management and crop diversification. She believes that learning from and connecting with nature is critical to improving agricultural resilience and addressing systemic issues in environmental degradation and social inequality.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t

<\/strong>Eric Youngerman is a Research Technician in the Sustainable Cropping Systems Lab. He is especially interested in how agroecological strategies can enhance populations of beneficial soil invertebrates and how crop rotation and management strategies. He also enjoys integrating novel management and measurement technologies into agroecological research, such as soil water sensors and the inter-row mower.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t

<\/strong>Nazir (Adam) Sharifi is a graduate student in the Sustainable Cropping Systems Lab, where he began as an undergraduate research assistant in 2021. His research focuses on minimizing soil disturbance and harnessing ecological processes to optimize sustainable corn production. With a broad interest in agronomy, weed science, and agroecology, and a background in environmental science, Adam is dedicated to advancing the core principles of sustainable agriculture: meeting today\u2019s food needs without compromising the ability of future generations to do the same.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t
