On June 16, 2020 the Farm Hub organized a first-ever viewing of the short film “Farmscape Ecology,” followed by a Q&A and discussion with the researchers in the film and award-winning film director Jon Bowermaster. We are happy to launch our new interactive map, where you can click through to learn about what we are growing this season. Here on 1,500 acres of prime farmland in Hurley, the year-round growing season includes a round robin of seeding in the greenhouses, cover cropping in the fields, planting vegetables and field crops and hosting a variety of research trials. We hope that this map will evolve along with this season and the seasons to come.

In Ulster County, the Kingston Emergency Food Collaborative was formed to intensify and streamline efforts around the distribution of prepared meals and groceries to those in need in response to COVID-19. The Collaborative is a partnership between a group of over a dozen organizations, including the Farm Hub. The secret to its success has been a common passion and desire to help see the community through this crisis.

These include the Kingston Garden Bed Project, a new urban gardening effort in response to the COVID-19 crisis, and Soul Fire Farm’s BIPOC Farmers Skillshare, a special series launched in March to provide supportive networks and learning during the pandemic.

Wendelin Regalado has dreams of pursuing a profession that combines her two passions — farming and interpreting for Spanish speakers. She recently completed a pilot program led and organized by the Language Justice team, which combines study, practice, and mentorship. The program hopes to foster a network of professional Spanish language interpreters in the region.
