Spring 2016 on the Farm
Some photos of work getting underway at the Farm Hub in spring 2016.
A family of bears came to pick through corn left over from last year's harvest in the fields across from the rail trail on Route 209.
Some visitors to our greenhouses.
Broccoli seedlings were transplanted to the market garden in April. Broccoli and cauliflower will be the focus of much of the work in our ProFarmer training program this year.
By mid-April, the sweet corn was already growing.
Anne and Paige talking with Jean-Paul (in the truck) while measuring out the market garden to start the year.
Between beds in the market garden we have wide harvest lanes to make work more efficient. These lanes are seeded with grass and triticale.
Spreading chicken manure on fields before they were seeded with oats and clover.
Artie building beds in the market garden where most of the produce sold at our farm stand is grown.
Sweet corn has a long tradition in the Rondout Valley. This year we've been starting our sweet corn in the greenhouse for the first time. We'll be transplanting the starts out to the fields in May.
Some of the earliest greenery on the farm has come from cover crops seeded in fall 2015. The lighter green on the left side of the photo is a field of triticale. The darker green to the right is rye.
