Sunflowers as Cover Crops

Sunflowers as cover crops are not a common cover crop. Different cover crops have different benefits and they aren’t high on the list when you’re trying to do a diverse cover crop rotation. Sunflowers are a big woody plant and there’s a lot of carbon a big benefit of them. They have some downsides though—they aren’t good at suppressing weeds and if they go to maturity, you’ll have sunflower stalks in your soil.
